How to make idl a command at the command line

At the command prompt:
cd /usr/local/bin

Now create a symbolic link that points to the idl executable file:
ln -s /Applications/itt/idl/bin/idl idl

open a new xterm or terminal window and type idl at the command prompt and it should work!
